I think a colorful ascii display might be nice to have - as long as it is
optional, so that it still is easy to pipe output to files etc. If I remember
right, there is a (Linux-specific?) syscall to determine if the std input
and/or output is connected to a terminal. Perhaps that could be used for
setting the default for the coloring, with command-line options to force it
either way.

This is just my personal opinion, of course. I'd put most weight on the
opinion of those who would do the actual coding, and/or serious arguments for
and against.
