Gary,I attach a typescript. I think the problem is that if the library is not installed, the *check* for the library fails.===Package libusb-1.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libusb-1.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable

Cool. Been a while since that has been done on Ubuntu. Thanks for

Where do you see that? I see no such thing:
gpsd # fgrep libusb-dev * -r
gpsd #

I do not see anyplace that pkgconfig is actually run by scons. Some
files are placed in pkgconfig directories. And just for libQgpsmm.prl.
I don't think the gpsd tar ball installs any distro packages on any
distro.
What are the errors you see on both?
