Did you run ldconfig after copying over the libgps.so.27.0.0? - usually
the installation process will run ldconfig for you, but in this case you
did it manually so ldconfig is an extra step.

Thanks!  No, I've never used ldconfig before, and was trying to create the 
symlinks manually.  Now fixed.

Make me wonder where the "scons install" failed as the libgpsdpacket was 
copied and ldconfig'ed, but the libgps was not.

Perhaps that will help someone to resolve the issue?
