Jim, thanks for the email!
hey ohl-ians,
yes we are focusing on the rumination thing. BUT at the risk of
another distraction, this just came over the wire and i figured i'd
feed it to your subconsious to work over.
maybe we could validitate the ontology suggested by the below terms by
playing a bit of music and asking participants to confirm or denny a given
descriptor as applying to a little soundtrack snippet.
this would still use pretty much the same basic paradigm as the rumination
study.

Hey OJ (= O + billJ),
On a semi-related note, have you looked at www.allmusic.com lately? They
list the "Moods" a given band/artiste tend to project/evoke.
Eg for propoto-punks Crime, you get:
Moods
* Outrageous
* Street-Smart
* Eccentric
* Cathartic
* Enigmatic
* Harsh
* Confrontational
* Provocative
* Stylish
* Cynical/ Sarcastic
* Volatile
* Snide
* Raucous
* Passionate
* Manic
* Brash
* Aggressive
* Theatrical
* Intense
* Menacing
* Fiery
And for the shoegazing Slowdive:
Moods
* Atmospheric
* Gentle
* Bittersweet
* Ethereal
* Soothing
* Wintry
* Autumnal
* Laid-Back/ Mellow
* Detached
* Intimate
* Melancholy
* Hypnotic
* Sensual
You can click on a given Mood, and get a list of related Moods, as well as
a list of other acts that convey the given Mood.
