Are you sure? It looks like the OP is using a bitmap font with fixed

To get an arbitrary size you should be using a scalable font (ie
truetype, type 1, etc). For example, if you have the DejaVu fonts
installed, try:

     emacs -fn "DejaVu Sans Mono-16"

Try /usr/share/fonts
