Don't know but if you say so ... so, okay?

Don't know if/how much the base shell tools differ either,
xclip(1) and xsel(1x), maybe the Elisp solutions are
interface-exchangeable even.

$ sudo aptitude more xclip xsel
i   xclip - command line interface to X selections
i   xsel  - command-line tool to access X clipboard a

$ xclip -version
  xclip version 0.13
