Was looking over at java bug database to see if it was worth making a report over there. (is installer supposed to flag a non-present mscvr100.dll? if so, is it supposed to recognize the x86 and x64 separately? How should it respond if either or both are missing? How does that compare with this instance. Not sure I wanna keep messing around for reproducibility checks at the moment.)
In the meantime, from Octave's standpoint, is there perhaps a better way to handle the error messaging? _no java version detected_ seems a bit off in this case. Obviously java was detected by the installer. it wasn't the usual bitwise mismatch. it just couldn't load the jvm for the java that it did actually detect, despite it saying it couldn't detect it.
