Hurray! Tamas have changed the package on the launchpad and it works
well for me now.
So the rows:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:igraph/ppa
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install python-igraph
works well for Ubuntu Lucid (10.4) as well.
