Quite possibly. The question is what... The only thing I have related to
w3m is:

  (setq mm-text-html-renderer 'w3m)

looking through ~/.gnus and ~/.emacs.d/*

What version of w3m do you use? Do you have any setup related to

    GNU Emacs (x86_64-pc-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 2.20.1) of 2012-05-29
    Ma Gnus v0.6 (1bd6e87f)
    emacs-w3m-version 1.4.364
