That is like saying that punching someone is a defense against being
insulted.  It is not a defense.  It is an escalation and a worse attack.

I do not agree.  This stategy works with him.  But asking him to step
down by this harrassment does not work with him or with me or with many,
many others in this list.  He is much more patient, sensible and
community oriented than his attackers.  I know him very well and he has
never hurt anyone the way they want to hurt him or his project, the free
software movement.
