Libtool provides a --tag=TAG option to allow selecting a tag.  I
believe that Automake is being updated to supply the --tag option.
Unfortunately, different named tags would be required in order to
select the compiler configuration.

If the user needs to differentiate between two compilers, they can
specify CC=/path/to/cc when configuring.
