I fully agree.

Apparently, there are two conventions. All the figured bass scores that I have
(which are mostly scores of masses, oratoria or operas) draw the slash
straigt through the number. Attached is a scan of such a figure (taken from a
1924 edition of Haydn's Theresa Mass). Wikipedia (and
http://www.robertkelleyphd.com/FiguredBass.pdf), however, says that there is
also the 6 slashed through the finger as you describe it.
