No; they're in
  lilypond/usr/share/lilypond/current/vim
in the binaries.

Yes.

Patrick's suggestion casts doubt on this; I'll review it and get
back to you, hopefully in an hour, but possibly in a day.  The
other steps are similarly suspect.
