Hi Mats,
The default setting is\override Score.RehearsalMark #'break-align-symbols = #'(staff-bar clef) which means that it's aligned to a bar line if there is one and otherwise to the clef.
This is an odd default, given traditional engraving rules... it should be (in priority order)
time-signature
clef
key-signature
staff-bar
Right?
