Follow-up Comment #11, bug #27049 (project lwip): I think the proper solution would be to reuse XID for retransmissions. This is perfectly OK according to RFC2131. In dhcp_create_request() only increment xid when dhcp->tries==0: /* give unique transaction identifier to this request */ if (dhcp->tries==0) xid++; dhcp->xid = xid; In dhcp_select() and dhcp_discover() call dhcp_set_state() before calling dhcp_create_request().
