I'm pleased to announce that nano will again part of the GNU family.
After some discussions via email, we were able to find a way to keep the
project inside GNU, while gaining a better understanding of the
expectations of being a part of that system. Copyright assignments to
GNU for nano will indeed not be required, but are of course encouraged
when possible. Special thanks to Benno and RMS for working through all
the issues at play in the discussion, and to Mike for setting up and
running our various services while the project was in transition.
While he's been functioning well in this role for some time, I wanted to
clearly say that that Benno is and has been the official maintainer
of nano for some time now. GNU's recognition of this is indeed a welcome
and promising sign of things to come.
As the project can always use more help, I'll be putting up a posting
for someone to manage the Social Media accounts for nano. Although not
Free Software, it's always nice to engage with our users via services
like Twitter and other social platforms.
Share and Enjoy!
