2021.10.06 - GNU nano 5.9 "El manicomio ha decidido: mañana sol!"

• The extension of a filename is added to the name of a corresponding
temporary file, so that spell checking a C file, for example, will
check only the comments and strings (when using 'aspell').
• The process number is added to the name of an emergency save file,
so that when multiple nanos die they will not fight over a filename.
• Undoing a cutting operation will restore an anchor that was located
in the cut area to its original line.
• When using --locking, saving a new buffer will create a lock file.
• Syntax highlighting for YAML files has been added.

GNU nano is a simple and easy-to-use editor for on the terminal.

A concise overview of nano's shortcut keystrokes:

The tarball and its signature are here:

Some extra syntax files can be found at:

Specific issues that were addressed in this release: (dying on an unwritable file looped) (strange description of --positionlog) ("Out of curses" when two nanos died) (add extension to temp file [wish]) (hypothetical crash when prepending) (no lock file when saving new buffer) ("Someone else..." goes too quickly) (undoing a cut didn't restore anchors) (saving to a fifo gave error message) (with --backup, saving to a fifo hung) (prepending to a fifo hung) (killing nano could disable Ctrl+C) (^W^V did not work in file browser) (^W^V did not work in help viewer)

A plot of the number of bugs that were fixed in the last three years against
the version (or group of versions) in which they were introduced:
