There is not really much special about Linux programming, after all
its just normal C or C++ code + some library for graphics sound and
Co. Instead of project files Makefiles are used and thats basically
it. If you want to help on porting to linux you might not even need to
use Linux itself. SDL, a library which provides graphics, sound and
Co. is both available for Windows and Linux:

So if you could get netPanzer ported to SDL its just a matter of
writing a few Makefiles to get it running on Linux.
