This is the same issue reported in:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=245932

NB that your proposed patch misses two of the error-exit paths
from get_content() -- I recommend the patch in the above bug
report, which will hopefully be included in the next upstream
nmh release.
