Follow-up Comment #55, bug #36732 (project octave):

I've added options to force the interpolation to be right/left-continuous. 

I do not think that this is a good idea.  It is just as simple
to cause this by sorting the data before the call to interp1.
This only adds another option to cause more confusion.

I would much prefer to leave the behavior of interp1 as it was.

Also, someone claimed that duplicate entires that were previously
allowed have been prevented. This change does not, I think, help.

I think that fixing the documentation so that it matches
the code and so that people can understand what the behavior was
should be done first.
