Follow-up Comment #14, bug #40436 (project octave):

OK. Backing out gcc and its dependencies
(see attached file: fc19_downgrade) makes
median.m pass its tests, both in make check
and test median.

This means that the error is not simply in
assert, but in some compiled code used by
assert who's behavior has changed.

This could affect other code, of course.

So, I am re-upgrading my main system, and
will try to find the difference in behavior of
assert on it and on my backup.

Any suggestions would be welcome.
