Follow-up Comment #17, bug #40436 (project octave):
I tried a number of things in assert.m, but none
had any real effect. A change would appear to work
and then fail...
Something is not being initialized.
Tomorrow I may try other gcc options.
Running under gcc 4.8.1 always works.
