Follow-up Comment #4, bug #54086 (project octave): Specifically, I think it would be far more preferable if Octave used the font name "Monospace" instead of "Courier New" as the default font name for the terminal and the editor styles on GNU/Linux systems. The Fontconfig name "Monospace" is supposed to be configured to be an alias for the best/preferred monospace font for all applications to use by default.
