Follow-up Comment #17, bug #54180 (project octave):
If it is as short as the file-descriptor check, we could add the variable
checks to the development branch. If issues arise, they'll be recognized by
developers in a short time and the changes could be backed out easy
enough...or modify the test script to generate the required variables with
each individual test.
