Follow-up Comment #23, bug #49119 (project octave):
I am currently working on an internal function
__octave_link_gui_preference__ (key, value)
which reads the current value for the preference "key" and sets this
preference to "value" if "value" is not empty. The previous value for "key" is
returned.
