Follow-up Comment #22, bug #56097 (project octave):

Sorry for coming late to this discussion.  I am running Octave 4.4.1, 5.1.0,
and 6.0 on openSUSE Leap 15.0 without any trouble like described by the OP.

Regarding comment #19.  Try to build with the official qscintilla development
package:


$ sudo zypper info libqscintilla_qt5-devel

I think we can easily close this bug, by properly setting up your openSUSE
Leap 15.0.  Please install all of

https://build.opensuse.org/package/view_file/science/octave/octave.spec?expand=1
 (see the "BuildRequires" library names).

build again and see, if the problems are still present.
