Follow-up Comment #9, bug #56155 (project octave): That looks the same as the GNOME global application menu, and works fine here in GNOME (screen shot attached). I don't really know whether Octave has any control over what appears in that menu, but if there's something Octave can do to make that behave better, we can certainly try to do it.
