Additional Information on System:
Windows 10 Enterprise, Version 1803, Build 17134.706
I just tried the case mentioned below:
renaming "lower.txt" to "LOWER.TXT" removes the file too.

Renaming a directory does nothing: name and case are not changed, no error
message.
