and the a must read (bug #53100) before putting too much effort in this
project.

1. Octave 7 will have fast Matlab compatible json(en/de)code functions.
2. There is already a well-tested comprehensive JSON library as pure M-File
implementation. https://github.com/fangq/jsonlab
3. Your function might fill the gap before the Octave 7 release next year by
3a. Inclusion in the io package
3b. Creation of an own lightweight package

Assigning this bug to Philip to decide about inclusion into the OF io package
(3a.).  For core Octave your contribution will not be regarded (1.).  At your
option (3b.) is always possible.
