I've solved my problem, which Charles Kerr forwarded to this group.

The problem was, as I suspected, the ending of some uuencoded binaries. Some of them finish with "fin" instead of with "end". Popular usenet readers seem to manage well this situation so I think Pan should be patched.

I've attached a patch.
