The list is apparently only mostly dead :-)

I'm sure several folks have looked at your patch as well as others that have been submitted - the problem is that nobody with commit access to the repository is active any more, so there is nobody to make a final decision which patches to accept (there are a small number which would be critical for a new release) and also nobody to care for actually creating a new release. It would certainly be possibly for someone to clone the repository, but it doesn't seem anybody feels willing to take on that responsibility. In the short run, you can certainly compile your own version, using the patches from a select set of PRs, but that will get more and more difficult as more patches are needed for more changes to upstream libraries. For example, the gtk3 patch works, in that it allows to compile and run the program (which is what I have done) but apparently there are a number of features that don't work any more with that patch. I'm just lucky that I haven't run into any of those yet.

Unless someone step up to take charge, pan is destined to fade into history.
