Hi...

had the same problems on gentoo here... It's not pan... it's gtk
compiled with gcc3.2 and option -O3
Try to compile gtk again with gcc option -O2.
On gentoo systems you can change this in /etc/make.conf.
Perhaps you have to compile pan again.
