alt.binaries.multimedia currently has 1,141,831 headers on Giganews. I know this is an insane amount, but Pan will bring the system to a crawl trying to deal with them. Memory usage and load go through the roof. Once loaded, trying to manipulate (mark read, or especially delete) more than just a few thousand at a time begins to do the same thing.

Behavior is similar to how Pan used to behave on just 100,000 or so headers before Charles made a tweak several versions back.

Can anything be done short of renice or not using groups with that much traffic? :)
