ok, so I gave  up on CVS.  I managed to compile 0.16.0.  So i could actually 
run it!  And I like it.

Now, 0.17 fails with this:

g++-2.95 -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I.. -I/usr/include/qt -I/usr/X11R6/include  
-DQT_THREAD_SUPPORT  -D_REENTRANT  -O2 -fno-exceptions -fno-check-new  -c
