This task is done and tested on my system, its currently on the 'pre-make'
branch of the development repository of maneage at
https://gitlab.com/maneage/project-dev . 

It would be great if you could test it on your systems by the end of today so
we can hopefully merge it in as soon as possible. In particular, it should
show some good improvements on macOS, where 'basic.mk' will now be built in
parallel :-).
