I think that putting openvt in bashrc will cause a new vt to be created each 
time a terminal window is opened in X.
If this is true, it might be a bad thing.

I'm not sure that I follow you, because you can open up a second console as 
soon as you log into the first one. Also, there is qlogin.

However, I do realize that the difference in memory usage between one and 
two consoles is very minimal. I just think that it would be wise to have 
/etc/bashrc or something like that contain a line, "openvt -sw" or something 
similar.

Anyways, it doesn't matter to me, because now that I know how to do it, I 
can do it myself for myself.

Perhaps that the beauty of open source. As long as we focus on working
together on the things that we do agree on, then in general, there will be
improvement for everybody.
