No. It's a feature of eSpeak. It's purpose is to distinguish the
announcement of a punctuation symbol from a spelling of the name.
For example to distinguish "," and the word "comma".
Is it only the echo which is objectionable, or both the echo and the
change in tone (it's not actually a change in pitch)?
If this feature is generally unpopular, then I can remove it. It some
people find it useful then I can make it optional, either with:
1. A option in the voice file.
or
2. An option in the eSpeak configuration file (espeak-data/config).
or
3. An parameter which can be changed using the libespeak API, which
Speech Dispatcher could use.
