Espeak-generic doesn't work anymore

Hi,
this morning I tried to use SD with Espeak-generic, because Espeak
still crashes with Brltty while reading, the old libasound problem.
I had to realize that Espeak-generic is quiet, although there are no
error messages in the log files.
Finally I figured out, that /tmp/espeak.wav is no longer created, so
that nothing is sent to Aplay.
Creating such a file mannually by using the Espeak standalone and
playing it with Aplay, is no problem, so that a writing rights problem
shouldn't exist.
I send the Espeak-generic command from
/etc/speech-dispatcher/modules/espeak-generic.conf:

GenericExecuteSynth \
"echo \"$DATA\" | espeak -w $TMPDIR/espeak.wav -v $VOICE -s $RATE -a $VOLUME -p 
$PITCH $PUNCT --stdin && aplay $TMPDIR/espeak.wav"

Anything wrong with it? It used to work.
