Yeah, but you should never underestimate the effect of tides on
computers. The moon shifted, so the behaviour of the computer is
different :-)

It sounds a lot like you have flaky hardware, maybe bad memory or
memory that's too slow. The suggestion to test out your machine by
compiling the Linux kernel was a good one.
