XFree86 is a version of the X windows system that runs along with the Cygwin. I've heard of people running Cygwin on XP and the Cygwin documentation is pretty extensive.

Of course, I recommend everybody should use Linux, so it doesn't really mean I think anybody should put any effort into Windows XP.
