Thanks! So the second question in a different way, if we signal going into
tfrscalo is 1200 values, each representing the amplitude of the signal at 1
milisecond intervals, what are the units of the values in the output matrix
that we're getting out of tfrscalo?

the same unit than its spectrum: if U is the unit of signal x(.) then

tfr = | int x(s) \psi_{t,a} (s) ds } |^2    is of unit U^2 s^2
            U                    s


note: your choice of 1 for wavenumber is probably too small.
with this choice, the wavelet psi does not oscillate at the
frequencies where you are looking at. your
wavelets don't look like the ones in the figure of

pick a wavenumber > 8 such that wavenumber * frequency >~ 1
