After a number of rebuilds (am I glad it's on a fast machine!) I have
narrowed it down, the bug *isn't* in vile9.5r, the bug *is* in
vile9.5s.

That should help, I hope.  I'll go and look at the code myself but,
being unfamiliar with it, I don't promise anything exciting/useful.
