I didn't test your patch or read it carefully, but please note that
AUCTeX currently requires Emacs >= 24.3.  Your patch uses `when-let' and
`if-let' which were introduced in Emacs 25.1.  In order to have a chance
to incorporate your patch, please remove those macros or rewrite the
code.
