Well, since he already rebased all time and is only 5 commits ahead of
master, I think it would make sense to create a single commit of all
changes (so one final rebase).  I'd then merge the new version of the
branch which would just be a fast-forward.

In case you say that the history of those 5 commits (or a subset
thereof) gives important information and should not be squashed, that's
also fine with me.
