Hmm. Is it really git-new-workdir you're wanting? So you can have a few working trees for different branches from the one repo live at once?
On a typical debian box, it'll be squirreled away in /usr/share/doc/git/contrib/workdir/git-new-workdir(along with a whole bunch of other sorta-useful probably-working things that haven't quite made it into git's grab-bag of official commands.)
