It looks like we need only to keep the background colour also for the indicator. It could be by temporally changing the indicator face background or something like that. or adding temporally all the other properties to the region face.

I don't know if there is an easy way to do so and if it worth the effort.

I'm not sure I understand what we want to happen if the region crosses
the indicator.  The 'region' face by default specifies only the
background, but that's just the default.  It could specify any other
attributes of a face, including the foreground color, the font, the
size, the slant, you name it.  So what do we want to do with that,
exactly?  We need a clear understanding of what is being proposed
before we code it.
