Strictly speaking, that is correct.  But I'm not surprised about
Richard's suggestion, so I'm sure I've seen similar behavior
elsewhere.  Alas, a quick M-x apropos RET -p$ RET didn't yield any
good example.  So except for my vague memory, there is nothing I can
point to.
