My criticism wasn't on the input sequence itself. Now that I know
what it is, it seems a very reasonable choice. It was because of a
concern of how an underscore could be typed easily. In the meantime,
I found out how to do this: _ C-q, just like with quotes, but somehow
I hadn't made that connection.
