I tried it with xlc under AIX 7.1 on POWER, and with ICC under Ubuntu LTS on x86-64, and found a couple of portability problems which I fixed in Gnulib here:

Updating grep to the latest Gnulib should fix these.
I also tested it on Solaris 10 sparc with Sun C 5.9, with Sun C 5.14, and with gcc 3.4.3 (which is what Oracle still ships!) and found no problems, though admittedly many tests are automatically skipped on this old platform.
