There is a problem when using it inside of itemize environments.  When
you have

\item foo

where -!- depicts point and type `C-u C-c ]', you end up with

\item foo
\item \end{itemize}

If you use

        (delete-region (point) (if (save-excursion (goto-char marker)
                                   (1- marker) marker))

instead of

it works better.
